September author Simon Parker was recently interviewed by Cycling Plus about his bike ride through 11 American states on a mission to discover what makes the USA tick.
He shares the highs and lows of his journey, detailed in A Ride Across America, including his many encounters with not-so-friendly American dogs:
‘I was regularly chased by ferocious dogs – rottweilers, pitbulls and Alsatians – that are used as guard dogs for properties in middle America. At one point I had five or six of them trying to tear me off the bike. It happened so often I contemplated buying a gun – and plenty of people were willing to sell me one.’
