A RIDE ACROSS AMERICA DAILY MAIL REVIEW

A Ride Across America, Simon Parker’s fascinating and funny account of cycling 4,000-miles through the small towns and big issues of the USA, has been reviewed in the Daily Mail.

Determined to take the temperature of a nation of 300 million people, this is a book that is both deadly serious and frequently hilarious. As the reviewer notes:

‘Much of the tale makes for challenging reading, as Parker reflects on race and religion, violence and drugs. So it’s nice to encounter the less serious moments, such as his visit to a convenience store in Skiatook, Oklahoma. A sign by the till reads: ‘Due to high temperatures, we will not be accepting money out of your bra.’

“Is this for real?” I asked.

“You have no idea,” replied the clerk, with a roll of her tired eyes.’
